Dear Jean and Old Paludians

The first time I visited Slough Grammar School it was very clear to me that the school was a special place. It was made so by the talented and hard-working students and staff. Together they achieved great things despite the state of some of the buildings.

For the past two years, improving the physical environment has been one of our priorities. Last year we were successful in securing over a million pounds which provided our sixth formers with a study centre equipped with modern computers and a new six classroom block. We opened both these buildings during our Centenary Celebration in March.

This week our continued efforts have been rewarded and the Education Funding Agency has informed us that we have been granted £2.8 million to "demolish the existing catering and dining facilities and build new facilities". We will soon start building a fit-for-purpose kitchen and dining room with seating capacity for 400, student toilets and facilities for catering staff on the ground floor. Above, we will have a resource area, a library annex with research facilities and flexible spaces for small group work, lectures, meetings and offices. Outside we will also see the creation of additional parking spaces for staff and visitors.

The school plans then to explore with the EFA a further development which will include 12 new classrooms, 8 to replace existing temporary accommodation and 4 additional, a four court gym with changing rooms, showers and further toilets, a good size Conference Room, well sized staffroom and a new entrance.

This success is the result of team work and effort. I want to publicly thank the staff at the school, and in particular the Leadership Team, as well as the governors for their support, wisdom and hard work. We continue to be driven by the desire to provide nothing but the best educational standards in a welcoming and modern built environment.

I invite you to look at the plans (available on the website) and celebrate with us this fantastic news that make our Centenary Year even more special.
